USEFUL INFORMATIONS

PDF writing aid > QuarkPress

Please DO NOT write PDF wrom Quark, first writ a PS file, then make a PDF from it with Distiller. You can write postscript with these method:

1. DEVICE WINDOW

Please set the areas marked with red accordingly to the settings indicated on the picture. In our example, “Printer” and “PPD” is “Lino Herkules”, this is a RIP driver from Linotype. It is a good idea to install this PPD driver to your machine (or another commonly used printer driver: ECRM Mako). The “Size” is “A4.Extra”, because in this example, we created an A4 document.

2. PAGES

Set “Include Blank Pages” option on.

3. COLOR WINDOW

Please set the areas marked with red accordingly to the settings indicated on the picture. If our job contains spot colors (and we want to print it with spot colors, too) select the “Composite CMYK and Spot” option.

4. COLOR WINDOW

Please set the areas marked with red accordingly to the settings indicated on the picture.

5. FONTS WINDOW

Please set the areas marked with red accordingly to the settings indicated on the picture.

6. MARKS WINDOW

Please set the areas marked with red accordingly to the settings indicated on the picture; if you use 5 mm bleed, set “Offset” to “5 mm”.

7. BLEED WINDOW

Please set the areas marked with red accordingly to the settings indicated on the picture; if you use 5 mm bleed, set “Amount” to 5 mm!

8. LAYERS WINDOW

If the below settings are visible to you, do not make any changes to this window.

9. TRANSPARENCY WINDOW

If the below settings are visible to you, do not make any changes to this window.

10. OPI WINDOW

If the below settings are visible to you, do not make any changes to this window.

11. JDF WINDOW

If the below settings are visible to you, do not make any changes to this window.

12. ADVANCED WINDOW

Set “PostScript Level” to “Level 2”.

After your .PS file created, you can create PDF with Distiller:

1. ACROBAT DISTILLER -MAIN WINDOW

Set the “Default Settings” tab to factory setting “[Press Quality]”.

2. ACROBAT DISTILLER - MAIN WINDOW

Click on”Edit Adobe PDF Settings”in the “Settings” menu.

3. GENERAL

Set “Compatibility” to “Acrobat 4.0 (PDF 1.3)”.

4. PICTURES WINDOW

Set the area marked with red to 2400.

5. FONTS WINDOW

Please set the areas marked with red accordingly to the settings indicated on the picture; with these settings, Distiller will embed all fonts – if it’s not possible, the job will stop. In this case, try to convert all fonts to curves at the application you made the graphics, or put manually the font to the “Always Embed” list.
